I can only assume they removed it because it is OP for the bioreactor. This is a smaller spoiler, but two root pustules were also used when creating the architect component, and players need to use it in the rest of the story. Egg-hatched fish in particular provide the most energy. Here you can harvest Crashfish Egg, Copper Ore, Gold, Ion Cube, Quartz, Salt Deposit, Silver Ore, Root Pustule and Titanium.
It is also useful for disposing of any excess or spoiled flora and fauna that the player has no more need of. Arctic Kelp Caves is a Biome in Subnautica.
